J-734小行星
Asteroid J-734
2026.3.21-5.23,维伍德画廊 香港
Jaffa Lam's solo exhibition "Asteroid J-734" is currently on view at Axel Vervoordt Gallery Hong Kong. The exhibition continues Lam’s focus on the beauty of the everyday, the repurposing of materials, and the power of community narratives, while simultaneously pushing her practice into new mediums. The title draws upon "The Little Prince", referencing the lost prince's home planet, Asteroid B-612. In recent years, Lam has found deep resonance in Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s classic tale—a story of an interstellar quest for meaning, belonging, friendship, and love. At a time of significant personal upheaval, she found herself grappling with the complexities of the contemporary world, yearning for the simple, radiant joys of her childhood in Fuding, China. This profound sense of nostalgia became the catalyst for an introspective journey of rediscovery.
"Asteroid J-734" brings together ceramic sculptures made during Lam's residency in Longquan, intricate installations built from umbrella ribs, and compositions of umbrella fabrics illuminated by lightboxes. Each piece traces back to quiet moments of observation on Lam's journey: of the stars and shifting moon that kept her company on solitary nights, the shadows cast by trees on sunny days, the changing colors of fleeting sunsets, and the remnants of stair balusters that unexpectedly evoked memories of her youth.
In this walkthrough, Jaffa Lam joins us in the gallery to share the ideas and narratives that shaped the exhibition. We warmly invite you to join the artist and embark on a journey of discovery through "Asteroid J-734".
